The Freedom to Evolve

For a long time, I believed I needed to find my style, something recognisable that I could repeat again and again.

It was advice I heard more than once. Some galleries suggested that if I wanted to be successful, I needed to settle on one style and stay with it. I understand why that approach works for many artists, but for me it felt restrictive.

I see us as multidimensional beings. By nature, we are curious. We grow, we evolve and we are drawn towards what genuinely excites us. Why should creativity be any different?

The more I create, the more I realise that my art changes because I change.

Some days I'm drawn to collage, other days to paint, photography, writing or paper sculptures. Sometimes I feel inspired by a single leaf, a paper onion, or the quiet reflection of water. I no longer see these as separate paths. They are all expressions of the same curiosity.

I've stopped asking, "Does this fit my style?"

Instead, I ask, "Does this feel true to who I am today?"

If you've outgrown a way of creating, perhaps it isn't because you've lost your style. Perhaps you've simply grown beyond it.

Trust the pull towards a new medium, a new idea or a different way of seeing. Follow what genuinely sparks your curiosity and allow yourself to explore without needing to know where it will lead.

Creativity isn't meant to confine us to one place. It invites us to keep growing, discovering and expressing who we are becoming.

Perhaps your next creative chapter isn't a departure from who you are. Perhaps it's a deeper expression of who you're becoming.
