Somewhere Between Right and Wrong…

I used to stare at a blank page for hours, frozen by the belief that I couldn't create what I had envisioned. I would stay there, following thought after thought- I can't do it. I'm not good enough. It won't turn out the way I want it to.

Somewhere along the way, I began to notice how much judgement was restricting me.

There were the thoughts that deflated me, but also the ones that elevated me. Both could take me away from simply being. Somewhere between the two, I began to find a gentler place, one where things didn't need to be right or wrong, good or bad.

I started thinking about the way we created as children. We weren't always trying to make the perfect piece. We played. We explored. We followed our curiosity. We could be enormously proud of something simply because we had made it.

My mind still takes me down all sorts of rabbit holes. The difference is that I'm learning to notice the stories without always following them.

I have experienced that sweet spot a few times now, somewhere between right and wrong, between the thoughts that elevate me and those that deflate me. In that space, there is nothing to prove and nothing to get right. I don't need to know where the work is going. There is simply an openness to what appears.

I'm learning to look at what I create with softer, almost childlike eyes with curiosity before judgement. To allow all parts of myself to appear in the process and to create not always for an end result, but for the experience itself.

Somewhere between right and wrong, I found freedom.
