Looking Through the Cracks
For years… sometimes lifetimes… we can go on hating someone based on an image we created in our own minds.
If we paused, even for a moment, and looked through the cracks, we might see how misaligned those beliefs really were. We might even discover something truly beautiful in them that no one else had ever seen.
But what's even more confronting is this...We can do the same thing to ourselves. From the time we're young, we're influenced by family, culture, experiences, expectations and the countless stories we're told about who we are and who we should become. Little by little, we begin to create an image of ourselves from those experiences, until that image starts to feel like the truth. We then gather experiences that seem to confirm it, making the story feel undeniable.
But what if it isn't?
What if it was never the truth...just a story we learned to believe? Looking through the cracks is where I first began to question that story. It was where I realised there was a difference between who I am and who I had believed myself to be. That quiet realisation changed the way I saw myself, and eventually, the way I saw others.
Perhaps transformation isn't about becoming someone new. Perhaps it's about gently uncovering who we've been beneath the stories all along.
